2010 Interns training: Week One
Written by Marina (Holland)
So here I found myself, the only female-intern between 9 boys. I thought that lady’s play sport as well… Not that it wasn’t good. Even though I came in 2 days later, the group accepted me very soon.
According to all the boys stories I missed the best part called boot camp. Pretty awful I think: Walking through a dark night, standing still for 15 minutes, push-ups, crunches, body stretching , body jumps, running, shuttle runs, push-ups again and working on core stability, singing in the tent, making fire, sleeping in a tent during a storm, this while the tent is leak, so (almost) no sleeping.
The place where we stayed was almost a paradise, Kimiad near Heidelberg. We could use a pool, a trampoline, a hall (to play soccer), a volleyball field, a tv (to watch some soccer games), and many other rooms. We did some teambuilding and other sport games. But besides that, we received many trainings (sometimes even too much trainings for one day). We learned about the position of sports in the 21th century, what ministry involves, how to use this and about cultural differences we can face.
A few other facts about this week:
- Durban is the best place in South Africa. If you disagree talk to Mango.
- The lady’s who served us in preparing food did a wonderful job. It was delicious!
- Sport is the best vehicle (but not the only one), to reach out to the world in the 21th century.
