During the week of the 27th till the 30th of June, AIS Pretoria, planned and ran a Soccer School for children between the ages of nine and thirteen years.
This was part of an ongoing feasibility study process towards launching a Hope Academy in Mamelodi.
The program was held in Mamelodi at the MALFA football grounds. This event was the first of many, working alongside our new partners Mamelodi Local Football Association (MALFA).
The school ran from Monday to Thursday, but the kids were only there from Tuesday until Thursday. Monday was a final planning day with the coaches and volunteers, whom mostly came from Mamelodi. This was a big step forward in our plan to plant a Hope Academy in Mamelodi. Having so many local coaches, showed the enthusiasm of the locals when it comes to developing the skills of the children, and helping shape them as individuals.
On Tuesday the 28th of June, we had one hundred and seventy kids. The number was then limited to one hundred and one for Wednesday and Thursday. Big Save supplied us with lunch and refreshments every day.
The soccer school program comprised of coaching sessions as well as life skills teaching primarily based on Scripture and around the theme of playing like a King. We looked at the life of King David, and how he aimed to serve God and honor Him in how he lived his life.
The week was a huge success and we sincerely thank all our partners: Big Save, Basil Read, MALFA and Let's Play.
